Ideal Toy Company originally produced teddy bears, they were kickoff in their manufacture to make hard plastic dolls after World War II.

The Miss Revlon high heel style dolls dominated the marketplace in the mid 1950s in sizes from 10 1/two to 20".  Toni abode permanent dolls were another very popular doll.  Ideal had so many great doll products, information technology'southward hard to choose a favorite doll and of course you demand the doll in every size, too.

Ideal's dolls are made of woods, cloth, composition, safety like magic skin, hard plastic and vinyl and are considered to exist of very proficient quality. Ideal Toy Visitor was acquired past the CBS Toy Company in 1982, which later went out of concern.

Sears sold this same doll in their Happi-Time doll line and named it Kiss Me Dolls.

1951-1954 Ideal Baby Mine doll, sixteen or 22" alpine, all composition ball jointed body, glued on wig, sleep eyes, open up mouth with teeth, doll marked Platonic within a diamond USA.

1951-1954 Ideal Babe Mine doll or Bucilla Thrift Kit doll, 11" all hard plastic fully jointed body, blue side glancing sleep eyes, four painted upper lashes, molded painted hair, marked on back Ideal Doll.

Originally sold wearing a white cloth diaper held on with a safe pin, came packaged in red and white acetate window box.  She was referred to as the Thrift Kit doll because at that fourth dimension you could purchase a Bucilla Thrift Kit to sew together outfits for this doll. Some of the outfits offered were a Cowboy, Little Nurse, Roller Skating Dress, or Sailor Male child.

1951-1955 Ideal Lolly doll or Ideal Tiny Girl doll, 9" tall, head turning walker, sleep eyes, molded, rooted or wig hair, marked Ideal Doll 9, lilliputian sister to the Saucy Walker doll.

Reliable also fabricated a similar Lolly doll sold in Canada.  Encounter the Reliable folio for photograph.

1951-1953 Ideal Sara Ann doll, fifteen, 21 & 24" alpine, all hard plastic, Toni look-a-similar but Platonic did non have to pay the Toni royalties, blonde or brunette saran wig, marks aforementioned as the Toni dolls (15' - P-90, 21' - P93 or P3, 24' - P94 or P4), so without her box or tags there is nigh no way to tell them apart.  The only deviation we have been told, is that Sara Ann has a saran wig (which is easier to style) non a nylon wig, equally worn past Toni.  Thanks to Ron & Judy of Oregonorthward for sharing this tip.See also the 1940s Ideal page for more than on the Toni dolls.

1951-1957 Ideal Saucy Walker doll, 14, 16 or 22" tall, all hard plastic, walker type doll with a pivot jointed body and a grill in her tummy (with or without crier), wig, flirty sleep eyes, 14" only has sleep optics, open mouth with two teeth or closed rima oris, some dolls have bent knees, also and the Saucy Walker doll came in a blackness version, doll marked 14" tall unmarked, Ideal Doll W16 or Ideal Doll W22 based on the dolls elevation. Saucy Walker dolls were likewise available through Sears.

In 1954 Platonic made a 25" alpine doll that was called Saucy Walker'south Big Sister doll, doll marked Ideal Doll W25, the Big Sis doll looks very similar to Saucy Walker just larger, was a mail-in premium from the Chicago Daily Tribune.

1951-1955 Ideal Snookie doll, 10" tall, hard plastic or latex head with molded hair, magic skin torso, has painted side glancing eyes, came dressed in a diaper and robe (photograph is non in original clothing) marked Ideal Doll. Their are also Pete doll and Repete doll - Snookie twins that cooed when squeezed with one piece magic skin bodies about 12" alpine, doll marked Platonic Doll.

Platonic's difficult plastic patent number is 2252077, various dolls accept this number in the marking.

1951 Ideal Trilby doll, nineteen" tall, multi-face doll with three faces, squeaker, vinyl face up and limbs, stuffed material trunk, when y'all turned a knob on pinnacle of head the face changed to sleeping, smile or crying, was dressed  in a blue wearing apparel and bonnet with dark blond curly hair attached to the bonnet, doll is unmarked.

1953-1956 Ideal Princess Mary doll, 14, xvi, 19 or 21" tall, uses the Toni walker difficult plastic jointed trunk and markings.  This doll uses the vinyl Ruth head mold as seen in the next doll, some had pierced ears, rooted hair, sleep eyes, closed rima oris.

1953 Platonic Fiddling Wingy doll, xiii" tall, vinyl blimp caput, hard plastic walker body, long saran wig, bluish sleep eyes, closed rima oris, dimples.  Face is coated with phosphorescent paint so it "glows" in the dark.  Character from the Dick Tracy comic strip serial, doll marked on head CPR 1953 Chicago Tribune Platonic Doll, and on back Ideal fourteen.

1953 Ideal Joan Palooka doll , 14" tall, magic pare trunk, fully jointed, yellow molded hair, bluish painted optics, wore a pink dress with blue ribbons, comic strip character doll, daughter of Joe Palooka and Ann Howe from the comic strip by Hammond "Ham" Fisher, doll marked on caput � 1952 Ham Fisher Ideal Doll.

1954 Petty Max doll, sixteen" tall, a mute eight twelvemonth old orphan kid who was Joe Palooka's sidekick, comic strip grapheme doll, red molded painted pilus, also made past the Personality Doll Corporation 1953. See the Difficult Plastics Dolls 1950s page for the Piddling Max doll.

1954-1956 Ideal Posie doll, 17 or 23" alpine, hard plastic doll, very like to the Saucy walkers just this one has bendable knees, dolls ad reads "Pretty Posie of a hundred life like poses". Earliest doll had a hard plastic head with flirty bluish sleep eyes, later ones had a vinyl head not-flirty optics and rooted auburn hair.  Dolls have the walking machinery, blue slumber optics, airtight mouth and crier, doll marked on head Ideal VP-17 or VP-23.

1956-1959 Ideal Miss Revlon doll , 15, 18, xx" tall, vinyl head and artillery (some accept jointed elbows), difficult plastic body, sleep optics, rooted hair in several colors & styles, pierced ears, high heeled feet, doll marked Platonic 15N, VT-18, VT-20 according the the size of the doll.

In 1957 Ideal made a Revlon Walking doll, 18 or 20" tall, with hip pins and head turning mechanism.

1957 Platonic Pink Fairy doll, 18" tall, uses the same caput mold as Miss Revlon shown to a higher place, (vinyl head, sleep eyes, flat feet) and has pink rooted pilus with bangs, wears a pinkish satin & tulle tutu, has wings on dorsum fastened to the tutu, and pink ballet slippers, doll marked VT-18.  We don't remember whatever of the other Revlon sized dolls had pink pilus.

She does surface in online auctions occasionally, but would exist considered quite rare and commands a rather loftier price compared to other Revlon sized dolls with other hair colors or outfits.

1957 Ideal Crown Princess doll, 10 3/iv" alpine, vinyl head, flanged body construction, sleep eyes, rooted pilus, no pierced ears, high heel feet, came wearing lace bra and panties and a small plastic crown, doll is unmarked, very similar to the afterwards produced Little Miss Revlon doll but the head mold is unlike (larger) and this doll is slightly taller.

1957 Ideal Patty Prays doll, twenty" tall, #7741, vinyl head and hands, cloth loosely stuffed torso, rooted hair, side glancing blue painted eyes, painted facial features, wears cotton pajamas with matching cap with white pom-pom and has a white ribbon with dolls name on information technology in blue, recites a bedtime prayer when wound.

1958-1963 Ideal Shirley Temple dolls, 12, 15, 17, xix" tall, the 12" doll is the near commonly constitute doll, doll marked on head Platonic Doll ST12, the ST = Shirley Temple + the dolls size.

1959-1963 Shirley Temple, 26" tall, all vinyl, rooted pilus, same equally the smaller sizes, this doll is believed to have been used as a store display for the existent Shirley's public appearances to promote the doll.  Is very rare.

1962 the 12" Shirley was no longer available. 1963 Shirley was simply bachelor in xv".

1958-1961 Ideal Shirley Temple doll, nineteen" alpine, also came as a walker doll marked Platonic Toy Corp ST-19-R and the non-walker doll marked Ideal Doll ST-xix-1 on caput).  The 17 & 19" tall sized dolls are a trivial harder to notice, and accept flirty optics.  Separate wardrobes were sold for all sizes except the 26" doll. There was a xix" light brown or black Shirley as well, but this one may never accept been produced.Besides a 36" life size - yous'll find that on the 1960s Platonic folio.

1959-1961 Ideal Patti Playpal doll, 35" tall, she is the same size as a three year old kid, made of lightweight blow molded vinyl, joined at neck, shoulders, wrists (1st year merely) and hips, toddler body, vinyl head with rooted pilus either short and curly or long and direct in various colors , sleep eyes, closed rima oris, came dressed in various dresses, doll head marked Platonic Doll Toy Corp. G-35 or B-nineteen-1.

The Playpal family unit of dolls were designed by Neil Estern, all were offset issued in 1959 and consisted of Patti 35", Penny 32", Suzy (Suzie) 28", Johnny 24", Bonnie 24", and Peter Playpal 38" issued in 1960.  All dolls were fabricated life sized at diverse ages.

Many other companies jumped on making large sized Playpal type companion dolls with their own versions as they were then popular, some are unmarked or with markings different than Ideal.  Use our search button with the term "playpal" to find other companies who fabricated similar dolls.

In 1981 to 1982 Platonic re-issued Patti Playpal from the original 1959 mold without sleep eyes as a black or white doll.

1952 Platonic Baby Ruth doll, 14-nineteen" possibly other sizes, vinyl head with rooted wig cap glued on for hair, sleep optics, open mouth no teeth, vinyl oil cloth stuffed body, fractional vinyl stuffed arms and legs, doll marked on back of cervix DO 14  Platonic Doll.
